Alison Moyet

Question masters were instructed to accept "Alf" as an alternative answer.

I don't mean to be disingenuous, but I feel bound to ask, "Why?" I'm all in favour of being lenient when deciding whether or not to accept an answer, but this (IMHO) is ridiculous.

'Alf' is just a nickname; and if it hadn't been the title of her first solo LP, I for one would probably never have known it was.

According to Wikipedia, Alison Moyet is "also known as" Alf. But in the actual article, the only reference to this name (in reference to the artist, as opposed to the album of that name) is where it's introducing the album, when it says that Alf was "her punk–era nickname".

The album was released in 1984, by which time the punk era was pretty much dead (replaced by the era of artless electronica).

The single Love Resurrection was by Alison Moyet. Why would anyone give the answer "Alf" to this question?

If you were asked who'd had a hit in 1965 with Papa's Got a Brand New Bag, and/or I Got You (I Feel Good), and you answered "The Godfather of Soul", you would surely expect the question master to say "I need a name". Only "James Brown" would be acceptable.

The same should apply to Alison Moyet and Alf – only more so. I simply don't believe that anyone could know her as Alf and not know her real name. Goodness knows, I've suffered from enough 'senior moments' myself; but if I couldn't remember Alison Moyet's real name (the name under which all her solo records were released), I wouldn't expect to get the points.

End of rant ...
